The Holy Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Jan Pawlowski from the Secretariat of State of the Holy See.
The August 15 religious holiday is also known as the Feast of Our Lady of the Herbs. It is celebrated annually at the Jasna Góra monastery where thousands of faithful arrive on walking pilgrimages.
The Thursday ceremony was also joined with a celebration of the centenary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Poland.
The mass was attended by local authorities as well as the Ambassador of Israel to Poland, Anna Azari.
“It is all very interesting,” said Ms Azari who attended the ceremony for the first time. “There are many people but everything goes smoothly, there is peace and serenity.”
“It looks to me as the pilgrims become younger a they enter Jasna Góra,” she added. “You can clearly see the community of pilgrims and this is very moving.”
