A political analyst and co-author of ‘Understanding Central Europe’, Przybylski said: “The situation here is volatile. Fico isn’t the most popular and this will be very consequential for public life.” Speaking of Fico’s authoritarian grip on the country, Przybylski warned that the assassinaton attempt could have wider implications.
“Enemies of ‘united Europe’ are going to use this to their advantage,” he said. “Today will amplify divisions and speak to radical emotions.
Domestically, Slovakia could face a turbulent future. “The chances of this unifying Slovakia are not high,” said Przybylski. “This act of aggression will bring different judgments from those who are polarized already.”
He added: “The way Fico’s government has been performing has not set grounds for a calm reaction.”
