At the headquarters of the United Nations, the Polish leader took part in the opening session of an event on building global resilience and promoting sustainable development through infrastructural connections.

Duda said that currently, every country is experiencing problems arising from pandemics, wars and other conflicts, climate change, and natural disasters. He emphasized that disruptions in supply chains, blockades of transport routes, lack of energy security, and secure telecommunications affect societies and economies worldwide.

“I am convinced that many of these challenges can be addressed and limited by building regional infrastructural connections. It is a key tool for building resilience and is of great importance for global development. Our goal should be to prevent crises, not just to react to them,” emphasized the president.

He recalled that at the initiative of Poland, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on building global resilience and promoting sustainable development through infrastructural connections. In his opinion, the adopted document is a signal that investing in high-quality, reliable, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure is a universal global priority.

Duda said that the inspiration for the resolution was the experiences of the Three Seas Initiative, which brings together European countries located between the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic Seas.

He emphasized that the Three Seas Initiative has become the primary platform for improving connectivity in our part of Europe in recent years. “Members of the Three Seas Initiative are among the fastest-growing in the EU. We are the engine of the European economy and an excellent location for investment in these unstable times,” - he added.

“Central and Eastern Europe has been particularly affected by Russian aggression against Ukraine. It is the infrastructure of the Three Seas Initiative that has allowed us to abandon Russian energy sources. Better regional connectivity has helped us avoid the worst consequences of this war,” - declared the president.

“I am convinced that infrastructural connectivity will increase the resilience of societies and economies and enable a just transformation that leaves no one behind,” he added.
