In recent days, there has been more and more talk about the future of Wojciech Szczęsny. Tuttomercatoweb.com journalists reported that the Polish national team goalkeeper has rejected the first proposal for a new contract. Juventus authorities would like the goalkeeper to earn less in the following years. The Old Lady’s economic situation is still not the best, and the club is keen to “get off” the highest contracts.
On Friday, the Italian media reported further news. As established by the portal “Corriere dello Sport,”
Szczęsny is to leave Turin in the summer. According to the reports of the Italian daily, this is already a foregone conclusion.
The Pole is expected to say goodbye to Juventus after the end of the current season, a year before his contract expires.
The Italians report that
Michele Di Gregorio, the Monza goalkeeper, is to be Szczęsny’s successor. He has played 30 games in Serie A this season. In them, he let in 30 goals and kept as many as 14 clean accounts.
In January, Newcastle United showed interest in the 26-year-old. The English offered €20 million, but that bid was rejected.
It appears that Juventus will have to spend a similar amount for the Pole’s successor.
Szczęsny kept 14 clean sheets in 31 games for Juventus this season, conceding 25 goals. He has been representing the 36-time champion of Italy since July 2017.
