The top-seeded Świątek had a bye in the first round. Then,
she saw off China's Xiyu Wang 6:1, 6:4. Just like her duel against Cirstea, that match also lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
From the very beginning both players were showing impressive moves, and, although the result did not reflect it, the Romanian gave Świątek a run for her money. The Pole nonetheless broke her opponent three times throughout the first set
and secured a 6-1 victory.
In the second set, Cirstea was only able to hold her serve once.
From the score 1-1, Świątek won five games in a row and comfortably advanced to the fourth round.
This was Świątek's fourth match and fourth victory over the Romanian.
The Pole’s opponent in the Last 16 phase will be
the hosts’ representative Sara Sorribes Tormo, who defeated Viktoria Azarenka.
Last year, Świątek reached the final in the capital of Spain, but lost to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, WTA ranked 2nd.
