Świątek - as the first Pole in history - made her debut as a leader on April 4, 2022, when she replaced Australian Ashleigh Barty, who a few weeks earlier announced her departure from the sport and asked for her name to be removed from the list.
She kept the lead for 75 weeks and lost it on September 11, 2023, to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. After eight weeks, she was back on top.

The WTA ranking has been prepared since November 3, 1975, by the Women’s Tennis Association, the organization responsible for women’s professional competition.

The tennis player who has been in the lead the longest—for 377 weeks—is German Steffi Graf.

Świątek in the lead, Linette ahead of Fręch

Iga Świątek remains the leader in the world ranking of tennis players. Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus is second, and American Coco Gauff is third. There have been practically no changes at the top. After the final in Rouen, Magda Linette made a significant advancement and is again Poland’s second racket. Last week, Świątek reached the semi-finals of the WTA event in Stuttgart, where she defended the points for the triumph from last year, so her achievements have been reduced. Sabalenka lost slightly fewer points, as she was eliminated in the quarterfinals, and in the latest rankings, she is 2,712 points behind Świątek. Gauff, on the other hand, is 590 points behind the Belarusian.

The only change in the top ten was the change of places between Markéta Vondroušová and Qinwen Zheng - the Czech is now seventh, and the Chinese is right behind her.

Linette, who reached the competition’s final in Rouen last week, advanced 12 places to 48th place. Thanks to this, the Poznań native overtook Magdalena Fręch (51st place) and is again Poland’s second racket.

Świątek also leads in the WTA Race rankings, which will determine the eight participants of the season-ending WTA Finals tournament. The second is Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, who, after her triumph in Stuttgart, came close to 142 points, and the third is Sabalenka.
